Activity log: What is the idea/utility of fork entries?

After getting confused by the way “You forked” entries appear and work in the activity log I’m wondering what the original concept for these was and wether they are an early work-in-progress. Many things worked differently than I would have expected.

Overall my expectations were/would be:

  1. The fork item links to the actual fork, not the forks overview of the forked notebook.
  2. The fork item is a variant of the “You created …” item, effectively replacing it.
  3. The log also shows fork items when I fork another author’s notebook, not just my own.

The current implementation appears to add noise to the log while at the same time offering very little of value.
