Tested some other Observable examples. They all render fairly quickly (1–5s), albeit somewhat jaggy.
I can repro that the worker document gets fetched twice in Safari and noticed some warnings regarding ResizeObserver loops. I’ll try to investigate more but I can’t give a timeline or even promise that anything will come of it.
In the meantime I can only suggest to switch to a different browser if you feel blocked by the issues that you experience.
Thanks for all your effort. I think with a new Mac (and its OS), all problems will vanish. But still, my current iMac suffices and still works great.
Since other notebooks seem to render snappy, perhaps there are issues with my account or way of programming. On the other hand, Apple is notorious for its planned obsolescence way of working. After a couple of years iPhones, MacBooks, iPads, and iMacs always tend to slow down, even while the hardware is still in perfect state.
I have started using Arc now.
