Hello Observable Community! This is my first post
What Makes the See-Through Earth Projection Special?
The See-Through Earth Projection offers a fresh way to visualize our planet β not by reducing distortion, but by embracing the kind that our brains are naturally good at interpreting.
Unlike traditional flat maps, this projection:
- Presents the Earth as a familiar ball you might hold in your hands
- Uses a type of distortion that the brain can easily process
- Lets you βsee throughβ to the far side of the globe
- Helps you intuitively understand distances, directions, and global relationships
In the notebook See-Through Earth Projection / Tago So | Observable, you can freely interact with this projection and export images in PNG or SVG format.
You can adjust parameters such as latitude, longitude, and rotation (Z-axis), as well as change the hue, toggle the visibility of the center point, border strokes, and graticule, and enable options like greyscale or less prominent back.
Feel free to reuse the code as well!
