I’m only seeing flickering in Chrome, so I suspect it’s yet another instance of [this Chrome bug](https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=852348) (previously discussed [here](https://talk.observablehq.com/t/long-string-output-cells-on-macos-and-chrome/1703/) and [here](https://talk.observablehq.com/t/flickering-slides/2274)).

Workarounds:

- use Firefox or Safari
- disable either:
  - `chrome://flags/#site-isolation-trial-opt-out`
  - `chrome://flags#enable-gpu-rasterization`
