In the Notebooks System Guide ([https://observablehq.com/@observablehq/notebooks-system-guide](https://observablehq.com/@observablehq/notebooks-system-guide)), there is a list of recommended libraries and sample datasets. However, it does not include all the libraries that were available by default in Observable v1, such as Vega, Leaflet, Lodash, Arquero, etc.

Does this mean that these libraries will no longer be available by default?

yeah I think so and I think it is better because those baked libraries added quite a lot of page load overheads and were also very difficult to upgrade (e.g. duckdb)

That documentation is not intended to be an exhaustive list. The set of recommended libraries hasn’t changed and you can see the full list here:

There’s also a list of sample datasets:

None of these are loaded by default; they’re only loaded if you reference them, so it doesn’t add any overhead.

Why not use MapLibre instead of Mapbox?
Have you considered integrating Turf.js by default?
