I preferred the previous Shift +Alt +F (IIRC) for formatting code. Notebooks 2.0 opens devtools in my Edge browser.
I thought I could adjust the browser, but I’m not sure (yet) how to turn off that shortcut in my browser settings since I usually use F12! The browser’s settings only mentions an option for F12.
Related note: I didn’t know which button was Cmd on Windows. Eventually I figured out it was control.
PS Long-time listener first-time caller! Thanks for a wonderful product.
Thanks for writing in and giving feedback!
On macOS, Alt-f is used to type an ƒ and Shift-Alt-f types an Ï. In general, Alt-key bindings are best avoided on macOS because they are used to type characters, and more recent versions of Codemirror don’t support it!
Also, more practically, the team uses Zed as our preferred code editor (outside of Observable), and Zed’s default keybinding for formatting code is Mod-Shift-i.
Anyway… I’ve added the Shift-Alt-f keyboard shortcut back (in addition to the newer Mod-Shift-i one, which is Cmd-Shift-i on macOS and Ctrl-Shift-i on other platforms). I believe this key binding will only work on Windows and possibly Linux. Do you mind trying it again and seeing if it works for you?
Works great! Thanks for considering and making the addition
